The speed of light, speed at which light waves propagate through different materials. In particular, the value for the speed of light in a vacuum is now defined as exactly 299,792,458 metres per second (approximately 300,000 kilometres per second; 186,000 miles per second; 671 million miles per hour).. The speed of light is considered a fundamental constant of nature.
- The speed of light in vacuum has been measured to be 300 million meters per second. This is the fastest that anything has been observed to move.
- The speed of light in vacuum is 3 × 108 m/s. Sunlight takes about 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach the Earth.
