The Earth follows an elliptical orbit around the Sun, ranging from 147 million to 152 million km. At its closest point, sunlight only takes 490 seconds to reach Earth. And then at the most distant point, it takes 507 seconds for sunlight to make the journey.
- At a distance of approximately 150 million km, we orbit the Sun. At 300,000 kilometers/second, light is moving. Divide them and you’re going to get 500 seconds, or 8 minutes, 20 seconds.
- Distance of earth from the sun is about 150 million km. This distance is also called as 1 AU (one Astronomical Unit). This distance can vary according to the position of earth’s orbit.
