سورۃ التوبہ اس سورہ پاک کے متعدد نام منقول ہیں لیکن ان میں سے دو زیادہ مشہور ہیں: التوبہ اور البرائۃ۔ اس سورہ میں چند مخلص اہلِ ایمان کی توبہ قبول ہونے کا ذکر ہے اس لیے اسے التوبہ کہا گیا ہے اور اس میں مشرکینِ عرب ک ساتھ سابقہ تمام معاہدات منسوخ ہونے کا ذکر ہونے کی وجہ سے اسے براءت کہا گیا ہے۔ یہ سورت سولہ رکوعوں، ایک سو انتیس آیتوں اور چار ہزار اٹھتر کلمات پر مشتمل ہے۔ اس سورہ کی ایک خصوصیت یہ ہے کہ اس سے پہلے بسم اللہ شریف نہیں لکھی جاتی۔ اس کی صحیح وجہ یہ ہے کہ کیونکہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے اس کے آغاز میں بسم اللہ لکھنے کا حکم نہیں دیا اس لیے نہیں لکھی گئی۔ اس سورۃ میں کعبہ سے کفار کی تولیت ختم کر دی گئی ہے اور حکم فرمایا گیا ہے کہ آج کے بعد مسلمان ہی کعبہ اور مسجدِ حرام کی خدمت انجام دیا کریں گے۔
جو ’’ بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ‘‘ ہر سورت کے شروع میں لکھی ہوئی ہے، یہ پوری آیت ہے اور جو’’سورۂ نمل‘‘ کی آیت نمبر 30 میں ہے وہ اُس آیت کا ایک حصہ ہے۔
