پیغمبر اسلام ﷺ نے سنہ 9 ھجری میں مسلمانوں پر پہلا حج فرض ہونے سے متعلق حکم الہیٰ صادر فرمایا۔ تمام علمائے کرام نے اس کی تائید کی ہے۔ نبی مہربان نے امیر حج کی ذمہ داری حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ کو سونپی۔
جب نو ہجری میں حج کا وقت آیا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے حضرت ابوبکر کو امیر حج بنا کر بھیجا۔ مسلمانوں کا یہ پہلا فریضہ حج تھا اور پہلی بار تین سو مسلمانوں نے فریضہ حج ادا کیا۔ اس سے قبل مسلمانوں پر حج فرض نہیں تھا۔
حضرت ابوبکر کے صحابہ کرام رضوان اللہ علیہم کے ساتھ سفر حج کے بعد سورہ “براء” [سورہ توبہ] رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر نازل ہوئی۔ اس قرآنی سورت میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے مشرکین مکہ اور حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے درمیان طے پائے معاہدے کو مشرکین کی طرف سے توڑے جانے پر سخت تنبیہ کی۔ حکم دیا کہ آج کے بعد مشرکین حرم میں داخل نہیں ہوں گے اور کسی کو حرمت والے مہینوں میں جنگ سے خوف زدہ نہیں ہونا چاہیے۔
