International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers is observed on 29 May of each year round the globe.
- Since 1960, Pakistan had contributed 235,000 troops to the UN peacekeeping operations in 48 United Nations missions in 29 countries including almost all continents of the world. Pakistan has been one of the longest-serving and largest contributors to UN Peacekeeping for decades.
- Pakistan has co-hosted one of the oldest UN peace missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan UNMOGIP which is mandated to surveil the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
- In August 2024, Pakistan Army’s Major Sania Safdar, who was serving with the United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), became its first peacekeeper to receive the 2023 ‘Certificate of Recognition’ for advocating gender equality.
- The 28th United Nations Police Day was commemorated in Pakistan for the first time at the National Police Academy in Islamabad in November 2024.
