The Council of Islamic Ideology is a constitutional body that advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is repugnant to Islam, namely to the Qur’an and Sunna.
- The Council was established in 1962, designated as Islamic Advisory Council. It was re-designated in 1973 as Council of Islamic Ideology. The Council started working with its office in Lahore and moved to its own building in Islamabad in 1977.
